With qualitative research recently gaining ground this workshop will give an overview of its various traditions such as narratives, phenomenology, ethnography and grounded theory. It will also try to bring out the major differences qualitative and quantitative while discussing issues of ethics, generalisability and validity.

Ernesto Noronha holds a PhD from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, India, and is Professor of Organizational Behaviour at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, India. Ernesto currently teaches Research Methodology, Sociology of Work and Employment, and Organizational Dynamics at post-graduate and doctoral students. Ernesto’s academic interests lie in workplace ethnicity, technology and work, labour and globalization, and qualitative research methods and he is involved in research projects on knowledge process offshoring, telework, Indian IT expatriates in the Netherlands, non-standard work, and collectivization in India’s IT and ITES-BPO sector. Ernesto has received multilateral and bilateral grants including from the ILO, the DFG and the NWO and has been a visiting faculty and scholar at various universities in Europe, the US and Australia.
